Join Custer State Park to start the New Year outdoors! First Day Hikes are a nation wide initiative to encourage people to get outside and enjoy nature. On Jan. 1, 2021 CSP will be offering 4 different hikes which will vary in distance and rigor.

Each hike is guided and participants MUST RSVP for the hike they wish to participate in by calling 605-255-4515.

Little Devils Tower – 8:00 a.m.
(3 miles – strenuous)
Meet at the Sylvan Lake General Store Parking lot, located along Highway 87 (Needles Highway).

Creekside Trail – 10:00 a.m.
(1 mile – easy)
Meet at the CSP Visitor Center along Highway 16A.

Prairie Trail – 1:00 p.m.
(3 miles – Moderate)
Meet at the Wildlife Station Visitor Center, then caravan to the trailhead.

Stockade Lake Trail – 2:00 p.m.
(3 miles – Moderate)
Meet at the trailhead located on East Side of Stockade Lake near the beach area.

Participants should dress appropriately for the weather, as temperatures can be unpredictable. There is no cost for the hike, however a park entrance license is required. For questions, please call the park office at 605-255-4515 or email to CusterStatePark@state.sd.us.
